Statoil offshore robotics lab

In cooperation with Statoil, ROBOTNOR has developed a robotics lab devoted to remote controlled oil and gas platforms. The purpose of this facility is to showcase and support research on remote inspection and maintenance of process equipment.

The lab consists of a gantry crane moving one or more robotic manipulators and a section of process equipment. Because of the setup, the lab is able to emulate a variety of situations, handling the right tools for the task. The software driving the lab can be controlled from anywhere in the world, giving true remote handling capabilities. The operator interface provides the user with visual information from the sensors, cameras, and a realtime 3D model of the robot. The operator can execute predefined routines or take direct control of the robot’s movements by using an assortment of different input devices.
